Avoid the Approval Mistake That Leaves a Manta Deposit Unchecked

A Manta Pacific deposit worked only when the source transaction is confirmed and the same wallet shows the expected asset balance on chain 169; a submitted or approved transaction alone does not prove arrival.

What is Manta Bridge, and what does “complete” mean?

This is a route for moving ETH or supported Ethereum tokens between Ethereum Mainnet and Manta Pacific. The Manta Bridge route is where the transfer direction, supported asset, wallet prompt, and transaction history are selected.

It is not a swap and it is not a token send to a personal address. The source-side asset is handled by bridge contracts and a corresponding balance becomes usable on the destination network. A token following the ERC-20 standard is a fungible token whose units are interchangeable; that does not mean every such token is supported by every route.

The important limit is the destination network: Manta Pacific uses chain ID 169, as listed in its published mainnet details. The wallet must be on Ethereum Mainnet to begin a deposit and on chain 169 to use the received balance. The correct wallet address matters on both sides; changing networks does not create a different wallet account.

Why is treating an approval as a transfer the costliest mistake?

An approval only authorizes a contract to spend a stated amount of a token. It does not move the token, create a bridge message, or credit the destination balance. After approving, the wallet normally still needs a separate deposit transaction. Closing the page after the first signature is how a transfer is mistakenly reported as “stuck.”

Before signing anything, compare four items in the wallet prompt with the intended transfer:

  • The connected wallet address is the address that should receive the balance on the destination.
  • The source is Ethereum Mainnet and the destination is Manta Pacific for an inbound transfer.
  • The token symbol and amount match the asset selected in the interface.
  • The transaction type says approval only when an approval is expected, then says deposit or bridge for the actual move.

Do not retry an apparently slow action by submitting the same deposit again. First determine whether the wallet has produced one approval, one deposit, or neither. Each on-chain action has its own transaction hash and status.

How should the transfer be set up before funds leave the wallet?

Use a small, economically sensible test amount when the route, token, or wallet setup is new. The test is not a guarantee for a larger transfer, but it verifies the exact address, network switch, token display, and gas setup being used.

  1. Open the intended route directly, connect the wallet, and confirm the displayed address.
  2. Select Ethereum Mainnet as the source and Manta Pacific as the destination.
  3. Select only an asset visibly offered by the interface. Do not paste a token contract from an unrelated chain or assume a similarly named asset is equivalent.
  4. Keep enough ETH on Ethereum for the approval and deposit transactions. Keep or arrange enough ETH on Manta Pacific for the first transaction after arrival.
  5. Approve only the amount needed when the wallet and interface allow an exact approval, then submit the separate deposit transaction.
  6. Save the deposit transaction hash before closing the wallet or browser tab.

Bridges exist because separate blockchains do not natively share balances or messages. They can move assets and information between networks, but they also introduce contract, operational, and user-error risk; Ethereum’s bridge overview explains those trade-offs.

Which route makes sense when speed, custody, and exit steps differ?

OptionWhat changes the decisionCompletion checkBest fit
Native Ethereum–Manta Pacific routeUses the direct network path; withdrawal can require Ethereum-side follow-up actions.Destination balance for a deposit; final relay or completion status for a withdrawal.Someone moving a supported asset specifically between these two networks.
Third-party liquidity bridgeMay offer different assets or timing, but adds another routing and contract model.Received amount and destination transaction on the quoted route.Someone who has checked the provider, asset representation, fee, and route assumptions.
Centralized exchange withdrawalUses an account custodian and requires the exchange to support the precise destination network.Exchange withdrawal record plus the destination-chain transaction and balance.Someone already holding funds on that exchange and willing to accept custodial handling.

The direct route fits supported assets when native settlement matters. A third-party route fits only after its receive amount, token form, and security assumptions have been compared. An exchange withdrawal fits only when its network label is exactly Manta Pacific; a matching token ticker is not enough.

What exact check proves that the deposit arrived?

There are two checks, and both should agree:

  • Source check: the deposit transaction hash shows confirmed on Ethereum Mainnet. An approval hash by itself fails this check.
  • Destination check: after switching the same wallet to Manta Pacific, the expected ETH or supported token balance is visible and usable there.

The destination check is decisive. A completed source transaction means the request was accepted on the source chain; it does not by itself establish that the balance is available for use on the other chain. If a token does not display automatically, verify its contract address from an authoritative source before importing it into the wallet. Never use a contract address supplied in a direct message.

Outbound transfers have a stricter finish line. An optimistic rollup is a scaling design that treats submitted results as valid unless challenged, so an exit can include an initiation, a proving stage, a waiting period, and Ethereum-side completion. A withdrawal is complete only when history shows its final completion state and the asset is present on Ethereum—not when its first Manta Pacific transaction confirms.

What should happen when history says pending or the balance is missing?

First, stop submitting duplicates. Copy the transaction hash, identify whether it is an approval, deposit, withdrawal initiation, proof, or completion action, and inspect it on the explorer for the chain where it was submitted.

If the source deposit is still pending, wait for its confirmation rather than starting another one. If it failed or reverted, read the wallet or explorer error, check ETH available for gas, and correct the network or amount before retrying. If it confirmed but no destination balance appears, switch the wallet to chain 169, confirm the identical address, and check whether the interface shows the transfer still processing.

For a withdrawal, follow the displayed next action rather than the elapsed time: prove when it becomes available, wait through the security stage, then complete it on Ethereum when the route makes that action available. The Manta Bridge history is the place to match the current stage with the next required wallet transaction.

Frequently asked questions about a transfer that has not appeared

Does a green wallet confirmation mean the balance has arrived?

No. It may confirm only an approval or the source-side deposit. Check the destination balance on chain 169.

Why does the wallet show a zero balance after switching networks?

The asset may still be processing, the wallet may use a different address, or the token may need to be displayed after its verified contract address is confirmed.

Can funds be recovered by sending the same transaction again?

No. A duplicate can create a second transfer. Identify the existing transaction hash and its current stage first.

How many transactions can a withdrawal require?

It can require three user actions: initiate on Manta Pacific, prove on Ethereum, and complete on Ethereum after the required waiting stage.
